It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Holwell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Gerald passed away suddenly in his home, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and laughter.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Audrey Holwell, his parents-in-law Alonzo and Marjorie Gillard, and his brother-in-law Ernest Gillard.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Maisie Holwell (Gillard), his daughter Sarah Jane Bancroft (Brittain), and his treasured granddaughter, Harper, who brought him immeasurable joy. Gerald also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Kathleen West (Ernie), Jean Link (Roy), John Holwell (Patricia), and Jackie Spurrell (Keith), as well as his extended family: Florence Gillard, Jim Gillard (Audrey), Eileen Clunie (Don), Elaine Gillard, and Barbara Ann Martin (Paul), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gerald served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years and in the reserves for 17 years.

He was a gifted gardener who took great pride in his flowers and outdoor space, often found outside enjoying the company of friends and family amid the beauty he cultivated with care. He especially loved his walks around the hospital pond with Maisie and their beloved dog, TeeKi, who was always by his side.

Gerald was also an avid winemaker who took joy in sharing a glass with friends and family. He loved to socialize, reminisce, and relax with good music playing in the background—often sparking laughter, storytelling, and moments of reflection that those who knew him will never forget.

Gerald will be fondly remembered for his humor, his easygoing nature, and his genuine appreciation for life. He never took life for granted and often reminded others to “live life to the lease”—a motto that reflected both his wit and his wisdom.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
