It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Heber “Jack” Troake, on June 4, 2025, at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Center, Twillingate at the age of 88.
Jack is predeceased by his parents Capt. Peter and Hilda Troake, his son Garry, his grandson in law Roger Blake, and his parents in law Jospeh and Mary Elliott.
Jack leaves with precious memories of almost 71 years his loving wife Florence, his son Hardy (Sharon), his grandchildren Dana (Craig), Dawn (John), Dylan (Brianne), Kelly (Christina), Khala (Louis) and Sarah (George). Great grandchildren Mia, Brooke, Hudson, Keira, Anna, and June, his sisters Doreen (Fred), and Elizabeth, sister-in-law Dorothy (Lloyd) and his nephews Grant and Stephen.
Jack was born and raised in Twillingate and at a very young age he went to work in the Lumber Woods, followed by working with CNR, and finally fishing on his own longliner, “The Lonefisher,” with his sons Hardy and Garry until his retirement. After retirement Jack enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved all animals, his garden, spending time on his bridge in his chair watching the traffic, tourists, and walkers, having a chat with everyone who crossed his path. He enjoyed his cup of tea, Vina Puff cookies, Werther’s original candy and a good tea bun. Jack was a man with lots of love for his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Special thanks to Dr. Petten, Dr. Hunt and all the nurses and staff at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre for their amazing support and compassion over the last week. We would also like to thank Jack’s Homecare workers, Joan and Juanita for the amazing care they provide daily over the last year.
Jack will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Donations in Jack’s memory may be given to the Twillingate Volunteer Fire Dept.
