Donald Anstey Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of Arthur “Donald” Anstey announce his passing on July 1, 2025, at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Center at the age of 85.

Donald is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Phoebe Ann (Sturge) Anstey, his brother Clifford, and his sisters Lilya (Hector) Roberts, Marjorie (Milligan) Hopkins, and Greta.

Donald is survived by his loving wife Jean (nee Murcell), his son Clifford (Melissa), his daughters Darlene (Paul), and Elaine (Dave), his grandchildren Samantha, Paige, Shawna (Andy), Emma, Lilya, and Evelyn Mae, his great grandchildren Mason, Thomas, and his sister Jessie (Don) Oldford.

Don was married to his loving wife Jean for 60 years. They moved to Ontario to be married in 1964 and lived there for 50 years and returned to Twillingate in 2014. He worked for Eaton’s and as a TTC Driver before working at Dominion in the freezer warehouse for 18 years. He drove for the Simcoe County Airport Service for 16 years until his retirement. He owned his own tack shop and was a racehorse owner, trainer, and show jump drug tester. He worked as a hobby farmer for several years with pigs, chickens, rabbits and more.

Don especially enjoyed spending time surrounded by his family and was always ready with a joke and a good story or two. He enjoyed camping, boating, and canoeing. He loved to fish and hunt, especially with his son, Clifford.

Donald was a member of the Twillingate Young at Heart 50 Plus Club for 8 years and enjoyed his times with his friends.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Diamond and Dr. Best and the nursing and support staff at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre for their kindness and exemplary care.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 5 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Notre Dame Bay Hospital Auxiliary.
