It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Hilda Rideout-Mehaney at the age of 90 years. Hilda passed peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Center, Gander surrounded by her family on October 30, 2025.

Born on Strong’s Island, Summerford, and at the age of 15 moved to Twillingate. Hilda married Wallace Ridoeut and had six children and together they built a home that overflowed with warmth, laughter and the comforting smells of home cooking. Hilda made the best soups! Her homemade bread and cooked dinners were delicious; Sunday dinners always brought the family together creating countless memories. She was also a talented knitter, crafting cozy sweaters, mittens, and socks to keep her loved ones warm.

For many years Hilda volunteered at the Gift Shop of the Twillingate hospital, giving her time and heart to the community she loved. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generosity touched everyone knew her.

Hilda will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Don, her children Brian (Jenny), Gloria (Ernie), Shirley (Lewis), Marvin (Barbie), Beverley (Randy), and Eugene (Tina). Also left with precious memories are her thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, as well as her extended family Gary (Shelia), John (Nicole), Beverley (Rick), and Roxanne (Bob), their children and grand children.

Hilda is predeceased by her parents Fred and Kate Watkins, husband Wallace Rideout, her brothers Sandy (Dolly), Harold (Leona), and sisters Pearl and Muriel (Reg).
