Shirley Verna White (nee Jenkins) 1942-2026

It is with deep sadness the family of Shirley Verna White announce her passing. Shirley passed peacefully away on March 13, 2026 at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre in Twillingate, NL at the age of 83.

Left with broken hearts, her children, Terry (Susan), Debora (Corey) and Jamie, her grandchildren, Taylor (Madeline), Alexander (Hailey), Ariana and Brianna and her sweet great grandson, Bentley. She also leaves with fond and loving memories her brothers, Melvin ( Marilyn), Wilfred (Joan), Lindy (Eileen), Nelson (Maureen), her sister, Louise, brother-in-law Bruce, sister-in-law Marina (Jim) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents Mark and Florence, her loving and much loved husband, Harvey, her sisters Marjorie, Marie, and baby sister Sylvia Marie, her brothers Clarence, Hardy and her infant brother.

Our mom met Dad at a young age, they married and moved to Toronto for a few years, holding on to the dream of returning home again once they made enough money to build their house where they would raise their three children.

At the age of 60 after having lost her husband, our mom got her licence - a show of great resilience and her desire for independence. She was a very kind and generous person who gave what she could to others. For many years she was an active member of Minor Hockey Moms and United Church Women. Mom enjoyed visiting her (late) brother Hardy and helping him with meals. And, when she was able, spent hours on the hills, berry picking and then making jams and baked goods. She especially adored her grandchildren and her great-grandchild and loved when they came to visit her.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Best and the nursing staff of the Medical Care Unit at our hospital for their compassion and care of our Mother.
