Obituary of Benjamin Eastman

Passed away on November 4, 2019 at Twillingate, NL, Benjamin Eastman in his 80th Year. He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Margaret Eastman; son Kevin; siblings: Israel (Pearl), Richard (Gladys), Jesse, Jim (Laura) Brown, Fred (Shirley) Brown, John Brown, Myrtle (Raymond) Brown, Susanna (Jesse) Goulding, Maisie (Roland) Lane, Eva (Ben) Burton and Gladys. He leaves with fond and loving memories: wife Joan; daughters Majors Brenda (Ross) Bungay and Megan (William) Wirtz; sons: Douglas Eastman, Benjamin Eastman and Garfield (Heidi) Young; grandchildren: Captains Sheldon (Ashley) Bungay, Jayden, Hannah and Alayna; great grandchildren: Alexis and Maxwell; sisters: Violet Pardy and Melita (John) Higgins: brothers-in-law: Martin (Nina) Hamlyn and Roland (Norma) Hamlyn; sister-in-law Bernice (Gary) Young; as well as a large extended family and friends. Ben was a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, serving as a peacekeeper in Europe from 1957-1960. He served with the Canadian Guards and Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry from 1957-1963, making numerous parachute jumps during his career. Ben was later employed with the Toronto Transit Commission and also worked as a commissionaire with the federal Government, retiring and returning home to his beloved Newfoundland in 2011. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 1:30 PM from the North Side United Cemetery, Twillingate, NL.; Lieutenant Keith Barrett officiating.
