Obituary of Harvey Melvin Horwood
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harvey Melvin Horwood, age 68. He passed peacefully away at his home in Grand Falls-Windsor surrounded by his family, on Sunday, August 30, 2020. He has left this life with a special legacy for all who knew him.
Harvey was born on April 29, 1952 in Twillingate, to his proud parents Marjorie (Jenkins) and Melvin Horwood. He lived in Twillingate for most of his life until work took him and his wife Joan and their family to live in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Harvey worked as Fisheries Officer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 35 years. He began his career as a Fishery Guardian, his true passion which was the foundation for his long and successful career.
As a devoted family man, an avid outdoors man, and a true lover of hockey, Harvey was a beautiful person, who was loved by all and will be remembered as a man with a huge heart, as someone always willing to lend a helping hand and always had a joke or story to tell. He had many accomplishments in life; in hockey, with the Twillingate Combines and their three all Newfoundland Championships and winning the Men's Championship race at the Royal St. John's Regatta in 1974 and building a long career in public service. But his biggest accomplishment was his family. Harvey loved his wife, his children and grandchildren fiercely and could always be found sharing his passions of hockey, hunting, fishing, boating and the outdoors with all of them.
Harvey is survived by his wife Joan (Randell) Horwood, and three sons Terry, Trevor (Crystal), and Todd (Lindsay); grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Ella, Aaron, Abigail, Hannah, Emily, and Ashton. Parents; Melvin and Marjorie Horwood, Sister; Christine (Jim) and Roseann (Howard) and Shearn (Rick) Dalley who he loved as a daughter, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Harvey is now reunited with his nephew Bobby Pelley, who passed away in 2014. Both are now together again and free from pain and cancer and are forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Visitation will be held at Hoskins Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in Grand Falls-Windsor from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Visitation will occur in Twillingate at Isle Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Central United Church in Twillingate.

In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Harvey’s wishes and his passion for supporting local hockey, donations will be graciously received in support of the George Hawkins Memorial Arena in Twillingate.
