Madeline, Andrew and other relatives, please accept our sincere condolences in the passing of your loved one. Edgar spent most of his lifetime helping others in a number of ways, and excelled in doing so because he was truly community minded. He didn't procrastinate about getting things done, quickly volunteered, and became a reliable DOER. Although he was such an outstanding community worker, that didn't prevent him from spending quality time with his family, whom he dearly loved. Edgar was a good listener, appreciated the opinion of others, and was always willing to collaborate in getting started on the task at hand. I believe Edgar's caring and compromising personality was so strong, that if anyone ever has an issue with him, need to have examined their own motives It's always sad to lose a loved one, and indeed Edgar will be missed by his family and his many friends. However in time you will be able to reflect of the precious time you spent with him. He was so proud of the achievements of his family, and you likewise are proud of him as a loving husband and father, and also for his dedication in fulfilling his life goal in helping others. We send our love and prayers to you all. George & Meta Troake, Gander

Wow. I feel as if a local version of Alex Trebek or Howie Meeker has just died; it's that inconceivable on the surface. Besides being something of an in-law (his brother-in-law's wife is a first cousin of mine), Edgar was my ninth- and tenth-grade art teacher at Coaker Academy. With hindsight, I truly pity the man--having had to endure a classroom of smug slackers and black-clad artsy-types who were too smart for our own good, truth be told. That was the 1980s--a time during which Coaker Academy was 'secretly' hitting an all-time low beneath a rosey facade of extensive honour rolls and championship trophies. Although rarely given the credit he deserved, Edgar proved himself a consummate and unwavering educator during a period of superficial upstarts, antiquated reactionaries, prurient busybodies, dubious policies, and low pupil morale. By all accounts, his aptitudes extended into his avocations, family life, and charitable community work. Edgar was a man who was both self-sufficient and socially generous, and--unlike some of his colleagues, ostensibly--didn't require all the bells and whistles of partisan politics in order to make a difference in the world. People like that are always sorely missed by the masses. Our sincerest condolences to Madeline, Dr Andrew, and the rest of Edgar's family. I'm sure you'll retain and cherish the many memories.

I was saddened to hear of Edgars passing. I have fond memories of Edgar and Madeline during their yearly trips to my familys farm in Nova Scotia to pick apples. Edgar always had a smile on his face and as a teacher myself, we often shared stories and lots of laughs at our experiences in the classroom. Edgar was always engaging and a true gentleman. Our sincere condolences to Madeline and the entire Hunt family. MSDC4
