Obituary of Roland John Cooper

Roland John Cooper of Twillingate, Newfoundland, peacefully passed away at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Center on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the age of 73 years. Roland is predeceased by: parents Raymond and Gladys Cooper, birth mother Annie Jones; son Andy Scott; brother-in-law Arch; and father-in-law Valentine Brown. Roland leaves with fond and loving memories: wife Priscilla for over 52 years married; children: Valerie (Isaac), Roxanne (Darren) and Angela (Michael); grandchildren: Scott (Lauralee), Janine (Edward), Joshua (Alanda), Shannon (Travis), Samuel (Sherkerri), Jesse (Amber), Charlotte (John), Nathan, Leah, Luke, Olivia, Cadence, Luke and Jake; great-grandchildren: Jada, Elliott, Lilly, Jonah, Joseph, Jessa, Katie, Alexis and Jesse; siblings: Betty (Wayne), Babs, Pat (Dave), Jocelyn (Lorne), Lew (Barb), Diane (Al), Rosie (Remi), Pauline (Todd) and Robbie. Roland also leaves mother-in-law Margaret Brown along with Priscilla’s siblings: Dorothy (Thomas), Vera (Kevin), Hollis (Diane), Velroy (Carolyn), Carl (Dale) and Brenda (James), as well as a circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rol, as he was known to most, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved them dearly. He was a prominent fixture in the sporting community and his large voice could often be heard while refereeing hockey games, or umpiring and coaching softball. In June 2012 he was awarded with the Ray Bowe Award of Merit for his outstanding contribution to the HNL officiating program which was well deserved. In addition he spent countless hours of his time volunteering for seniors and serving in the Lion's club. He loved to entertain and was quick to pick up the guitar and sing at many occasions. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our families and our community continues to be our highest priority. At this time, there will be a public visitation from the Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate on Thursday evening from 7-9pm. A funeral service by invitation only, will take place from the Salvation Army Citadel on Friday September 24, 2021 at 2pm; with Captains Keith and Charlene Barrett officiating.
