Ruby White

Obituary of Ruby Louise White

Ruby Louise White of Change Islands, Newfoundland, passed peacefully away at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Center in Twillingate on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the age of 89 years. Ruby was born on Dec. 8, 1931 at Edwards Island, just a short row in punt from Change Islands, where her husband-to-be, Bert, lived. They married on December 21, 1949 and moved into Bert's family home with his parents, where they raised their family and continued to take care of his parents until they died. Ruby was a devoted homemaker, mother and wife. She helped with all aspects of their lives together; the fishery, the animals, gardens and so much more. After seeing her own children grow to adulthood and have children of their own, she became a very special grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren called her place their second home, often going there from school before going to their own homes. Many were the visits, sleepovers and naps had on her chesterfield. Ruby and Bert had friends from far and near, and maintained contact with them over the years. Each one was special to them. Ruby had many pastimes including knitting, baking, sewing, cards, word searches and puzzles, but none greater than reading. She was an avid reader of just about anything, and was quite well informed. She leaves behind a huge collection of books. She will be missed by so many. Ruby was predeceased by: parents Lewis and Charlotte Edwards; husband Bert; son Neil; brothers Lloyd and Francis; and sister Sylvia (Jim). Ruby leaves with treasured memories: children: Wayne (Pansy), Bonnie (Bruce) Parsons and Lloyd (Heather); daughter-in-law Marion; grandchildren: Kristin (Cynthia), Jody (Jason), Elvis, Patrick (Stephanie), Pamela (Jason), Adam (Danielle), Amy, Kendall (Mahala) and Aaron (Abby); great-grandchildren: Alexander, Nicholas, Madison, Ryder, Lilly, Neila, Aria, Landon, Luke, Alexander, Noah, Laurel, Luke, Tatum, Phoenix and Parker; and sister Audrey Edwards. Ruby also leaves: niece Kathy; as well as a circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our families and our community continues to be our highest priority. At this time, due to government regulations proof of vaccination will be required. A memorial service by invitation only, will take place from the Isles funeral home on Thursday October 28, 2021 at 11am, followed by interment at the United Church Cemetery, Change Islands at 4pm.; with the Rev. Calvin Ginn officiating.
