Obituary of Robert John Smith
Robert (Bob) Smith passed away at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Care Centre on January 31, 2022, at the age of 87 years. Bob met the love of his life, Doris and they had 64 years together. Bob was a hard-working man and spent many months away from his home to support his family. He loved working at his gardens, sowing potatoes and other vegetables. He loved spending time his shed making things and giving them away. He made sure each great grandson got a boat or schooner that he made for them.
Bob loved his family and when the grandchildren came along, he adored each one. Then the great grandchildren he couldn’t wait for them to visit, his face would light up he was so happy to see them.
Bob is predeceased by his son, Corey Robert; parents, Walter and Hettie Smith; stepmother Harriett; sister, Marjorie Gillard; brothers, Leonard and Howard; father and mother-in law, Frank & Bessie Stockley
Bob leaves with fond and loving memories: wife Doris; children: Irene (Ralph) Cooper, Gerald, Christine and Jim(Linda). Grandchildren: Jason (Laurie) Smith, James (Casey) Baggs, Robbie (Stephanie) Cooper, Bradley (Lacy) White, Jessica (Brad) Mercer, Brent (Megan) White, Travis Martin, Caleb Smith; eight great-grandchildren and brother Roland (Nina) Smith. Bob also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law: Roy (Sadie) Stockley, Harry (Beryl) Stockley, Bob (Goldie) Stockley, Marjorie Stockley, Eula (Carl) Dalley; as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our families and our community continues to be our highest priority. A private family visitation only will take place from Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 2-4pm. There will be a private family service held at the Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11am. Burial to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Durrell.
At this time, due to government regulations proof of vaccination will be required.
Donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Central United Church Organ Fund, Twillingate.
