Edmund Robert Boyd (Ted) of Twillingate passed peacefully away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Ted was born to the late Pearl and Willis Boyd on July 14, 1939, in Tizzard’s Harbour. He enjoyed life in a small outport community before moving to Toronto in the late 1950’s. He met his wife of the past 62 years, Kathleen (Kay) nee White of Twillingate when she moved in next door with her relatives. It took the big city of Toronto to bring together when either could have rowed across Twillingate Bight. They moved back to Twillingate in 1963 and he began work at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital shortly thereafter, until he retired.
Ted was above all a family man. He was dependable and enjoyed talking to his grandchildren whom he deeply loved. He was one of the first members of the Twillingate Volunteer Fire Department and served for 35 plus years until he decided he would let the younger ones carry on. He was also an active Lions Member for 56 years and the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship which recognizes qualities such as generosity, compassion, and concern for the less fortunate. He enjoyed time with his friends – fishing, playing cards, moose hunting and on the Waterman’s brothers longliner as their unofficial cook.
Ted was well loved in his calm, unassuming way and will be greatly missed.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years, Kathleen (Kay), son Christopher of Lewisporte, daughter Colleen (Steffen) of Nagold, Germany. Grandchildren Hailey Partenheimer (Korey) Maui, Hawaii, Andrew (Jasmine) and Rebbecca of St. John’s. Great grandchildren Teza, Woods, Mason, and another granddaughter due in November. He also has many relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Twillingate Lions marked for the visually impaired or to the Twillingate Volunteer Fire Department would be greatly appreciated.
Memorial service will be 2pm, Sunday June 25th. Central United Church, Twillingate
