Viviane, please accept my condolences on the passing of your beloved Cyril. I hope that the memories of the many happy times that you and Cyril shared will, in some small manner, help to sustain you during the difficult days ahead.
I first met Cyril in 1992 in the aftermath of the northern cod moratorium and thereafter had the pleasure of working with him on many fisheries-related issues for close to 20 years. During this time, I (and many others) greatly admired Cyril for his honesty, his sincerity, his integrity and his kind-heartedness.
I also admired Cyril for the countless hours of volunteer labour which he provided (often behind the scenes) working on behalf of fish harvesters, fishery workers, his community and his church. But, I most admired him for the fact that he always advocated based on the interests of the people and organizations which he represented and never based on his own self-interest.
Cyril was indeed one of a kind and a true gentleman. Rest in peace, my friend.
