Obituary of Harris George Burton
With sadness, the family of the late Harris Burton announced his peaceful passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre on October 18, 2023, at the age of 97.
Harris was born to Joseph and Lydia Burton on March 10, 1926. Due to the passing of both his mother and father at a very young age, the family took it among themselves to help raise the young siblings. As time passed, most of his siblings resettled in the provinces of Ontario and Nova Scotia.
In his earlier years, Harris fished and worked in the lumber woods. Harris worked with Fishery Products LTD. during the construction phase of the fish plant and worked there during the remainder of his working life until his retirement in 1992.
Harris was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lydia (Gillard) Burton, wife Gladys (Burge) Burton, infant son Melvin, brothers Joseph and Raymond, sisters Lillian, Muriel, Gladys, Louise and Violet, son-in-law Donald Gates, grandson-in-law Dion Collins, grand daughters Lisa and Kayla Burton and great grandson Alex Bourne.
Left with fond and loving memories are his children Lloyd (Rosalyn) Burton, David (Loretta) Burton, Goldie (Calvin) Lewis, and Doreen Gates. His grand children Carolyn Burton(Dwight Snow), Cory (Krista) Burton, Craig Burton, Heather (Matthew) Harnum, Cynthia Burton (Brent Venman), Chad (Genevieve) Burton, Kayla Collins, Krista (Robert) Guy, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great Grandson and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a sincere thank you to Harris’s homecare workers, Jackie Guy, Chelsea Greenham, and Velma Shea, and also the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre as well as Isles Funeral Home for their professional care and services. Special thanks to Jim Pelley and Darryl Clarke for their kindness and thoughtfulness during the winter months.
