Obituary of Margaret Jean Burton

Margaret (Margie) Jean Burton was born on September 19, 1936, to Jonathon and Elizabeth Pippy and grew up on the North Side of Twillingate. Upon finishing school, she began working at E.J. Linfield’s LTD. On August 21, 1956, she married Larry Burton of Hart’s Cove and together raised two daughters, Beverley, and Gay. In 1962 they opened their own little General Store which they started in their kitchen pantry with $40 worth of stock, later building an extension to their house which expanded the business, serving the people of the area until 1990 when Larry retired. Margie then continued in business operating a Craft Store which she opened in 1985 until her retirement in 1995. Margie thoroughly enjoyed her years in business, working long hours. She spent any spare time knitting which she dearly enjoyed. She was an exceptional knitter, completing many difficult and challenging patterns. She also loved gardening and was often complimented for her beautiful flowers. Margie was a faithful member of the United Church and a life long UCW member. She also volunteered her time as a member of the Red Cross and Hospital Auxiliary. Margaret passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, October 30th at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate in the presence of her loving daughters. She is predeceased by her husband Larry, brothers Wilbur (Mary) Pippy, Victor (Dollie) Pippy, and Roy (Ruth) Pippy; sisters Mildred (Stanley) Vineham, Maymie (Samuel) Earle, and Madeline (Gordon) Martin; brothers in law Mark (Dorothy, Lily) Burton, and Gordon Burton, sister in law Edna (Eli) Reid.
