Obituary of Walter James Barnes

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter James Barnes announce his passing on August 19, 2024, at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre in Twillingate, at the age of 89. Walter is predeceased by his parents: William and Stella Pride; his wife Alvie; daughter in law Marjorie Barnes; sisters Margaret (Joseph) Greenham, Winnie Bath, Annie (Wilfred) Watkins, Betty Pride and baby Joan; brothers Carl (Frances) Pride, Harry (Audrey) Pride; his brothers in law Wilson Bath, Mervin Hann; and his special uncle Harry (Olive) Barnes. Walter leaves with fond and loving memories: his children Bruce, James (Doris), Wilfred (Arlene), Danny (Francesca), Kevin (Gloria), Yvonne (Larry) Boyd and Tonya Barnes; grandchildren: Sony, Vincent (Renuka), Amanda (Morgan), Ryan (Julia), Valene (Jeffrey), Bruce (Jennifer), Bradley, Trevor (Lerato), Timothy (Tiffany), Holly (Preston), Sherry (Nick), and Gavin; great grandchildren Abigail, Ashley, Austin, Alexandre, Kiara, Alyssa, Tristan, Courtland, Kira, Maya, Beauden, Waylon, and Oaklyn; his sisters Marie Bath, Pansy Hann; brother in law Fred Bath, Trudy (Robin) who were Walter and Alvie’s best friends forever; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to say a special thank you to Anne Squires for her love and support shown to both Alvie and Walter over the years and extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and the Nursing staff of the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Center - especially the Long Term Care Staff who went above and beyond caring for Walter, as if he were their own family member. Thank you to the Isles Funeral Home for their dedication, support and kindness during this difficult time.
