Obituary of Vera Elizabeth Young

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Young (née Freake) of Twillingate, NL, on November 19, 2024, at the age of 84. Vera passed peacefully in the hospital after a sudden illness, her strong and resilient heart finally at rest. Vera is predeceased by her first husband, James Young, who tragically passed away in 1972, leaving her to raise their two young children with unwavering determination and strength. Later in life, she found a devoted companion in William F. Fry ("Bill"), who became a second father to her children and a beloved grandfather to her grandchildren. Bill and Vera shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2018. She is also predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Stella Freake and her sister, Clarice Manuel. Left to mourn her loss are her loving children, Beverly (Darl) Scott and Jerry (Gwynn) Young, who will forever cherish her strength and spirit; her cherished grandchildren, Timothy (Janine), Mathew (Kathryn), Steven, and Sara, who brought her endless pride and joy; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Pierce, Felix, Graham, Georgia, and Nolan, who brightened her life immeasurably. Vera also leaves behind her special and dear friend, Joan Lambert, as well as many other friends and members of the Twillingate community who had the privilege of knowing her. May her remarkable life and spirit continue to inspire those who loved her.
