Obituary of Kathleen Joan Roberts
KATHLEEN JOAN ROBERTS
September 09, 1937 – May 13, 2023
Passed Peacefully away at the age of 85 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center, Botwood and went home to be with Jesus on May 13, 2023, Kathleen Joan Roberts (nee Mercer). Kathleen was born to Russell and Ethel Mercer of Botwood but she resided most of the entirety of her life on her treasured and beautiful Twillingate Island where she worked at the hospital at the age of 16, and then later in life as a nanny while also dedicating her life to the role of homemaker and Mother.
Kathleen was kind-hearted, caring, selfless, generous, gentle, and compassionate. She was mild mannered and a woman of few words on most topics but could assert herself and express her opinion with fiery conviction when she felt it necessary, especially with her children and grandchildren.
Her passion in life was her family and her home and she was a dedicated Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, friend, and a woman of great faith. She had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time with her friends and sisters in Christ as part of her church’s Women’s Ministry Group. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of those so dear to her and they to her.
Even though she was a diabetic for most of her life, she was a wonderful cook and baker and always made sure anyone who came to her home for a visit left never without a “lunch” or a few candies “for the road”.
She is predeceased by her first Husband; Harry, Parents; Ethel and Russell, beloved husband of 50 years; Allan, daughter; Shelia, sister; Viola, and stepdaughter; Sharon.
Kathleen leaves to mourn and await their reunion with many wonderful and precious, loving memories: her cherished children; Terry [Linda], Angela [Gary], Stephen, step daughters Shirley [Ron], Barbara [Scott], Linda [John], stepson Raymond [Hoa Thi Hguuyen], son in law Barry; daughter in law Goldie; her adored grandchildren: Gerald, Geoffrey, Nicole, Blair, Timothy, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph-Allan, Melissa, Kayla, Katelyn, Amy-Lynn, Cindi, Rodney, Sue Lynn, Ben, Sherry-Lynn, Richard, Joseph, Nathan, Gregory; together with their spouses or significant others and their children [her great grand children]; sisters and brothers together with their spouses; Hazel and Marg, Eric, Albert[Bert], Fred and Terry; sister-in-law; Hazel Bursey; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends; especially her dear friend, Eileen Wheeler.
Gone, but never forgotten; we will remember you.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the Doctors and all the Staff at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre for their love, care, compassion, and support over the past 5 months, while caring for our beloved Mother.
Too anyone who has helped in any way to alleviate our sorrow with any prayer, thought or act of kindness, we appreciate and thank you all.
Flowers in Kathleen's memory will be gratefully accepted by her family.
The Family of Kathleen.
