I feel so blessed to have known Ivy in her final years. She was so gentle and caring to everyone; her kindness was endless. We always had great chats and she always had a big smile on her face - especially when she knew I was going to sing for her and her friends! It was very evident how much she loved music - we had many dances together and sing-a-longs. Ivy was a safe person to be around and became a good friend that I will miss very much. Sending much love to her dear family.

Being the childhood best friend of her daughter Denise since the age of 5, I have many memories of Ivy. I always thought she was so very elegant and glamorous with her hair, makeup and nails always done and she dressed in silks and satins a lot (and I remember her 70s muumuu’s too! ). Ivy was very patient. She put up with me ringing her doorbell a hundred times a day and waking up Aus from his after-work naps. She happily allowed us to transform her basement into our dance studio where we would blast music and make her watch our performances. Her house and backyard was a revolving door to the neighbourhood kids and she welcomed us all. I have fond memories of going camping with the family to Windsor where I even got along with Dennis for once (lol). Ivy had a great laugh and I loved hearing her Newfoundlander slang (‘ya fool’ comes to mind!). I will be thinking of everyone in Newfoundland today and tomorrow and remembering all the good times shared with Ivy and her family which were like a second family to me as a child. Heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends.

I would like to thank the staff at Chancellor Park for taking such great care of my grandmother during her final years. As a fellow health care worker, I know how hard dementia care can be. Before her health declined, my nan loved Elvis, collecting Avon figurines and coins, a good yard sale, spending time with her mom and gossiping with her sisters. She nicknamed me “Pooh-bear” because of my childhood obsession with Winnie-the-Pooh. I will cherish fond memories of family dinners at her house; where the windows would fog from the steam of her cooking a full Jiggs dinner, but I would be too full from sneaking saltwater taffy from her candy dishes. After she moved back to Newfoundland to care for her mother, I would visit her in Twillingate during the summers. Nan would sleep in bed with me when I missed my mom, and always made sure I didn’t miss church on Sunday or a chance to fish with my uncles. I’ll forever be grateful for the happy memories I had with her throughout my childhood, and her presence after I had my first child.
